In order to save children’s lives, uphold their rights, and enable them to reach their full potential, UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) operates in eight nations: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In an effort to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals and advance the cause, UNICEF South Asia is currently putting the organization’s new 2022–2025 Strategic Plan into action.

Roles & Responsibilities for UNICEF Internship

  1. Contribute to the creation of talking points, Q&A sessions, human interest stories, press releases, news notes, and other media items.
  2. Assistance with media monitoring so that press release results may be tracked.
  3. Offer evidence in favour of media trends analysis.
  4. Combine pertinent information into briefing notes, for instance.
  5. Studies on child-related topics relevant to the area.
  6. Examine potential media coverage for the Country Offices and/or Regional Offices.
  7. Stay up to date on any breaking child-related news.
  8. Additional duties as required, such as research, projects for the Regional Office or Country Office, and assistance with internal processes.
  9. Contribute to the creation of relevant media strategies, campaigns, and advocacy plans in order to advance UNICEF’s regional advocacy objectives, which include nutrition, education, and climate change.

Qualifications

  • At least eighteen years old, enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral program in journalism, communication, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in journalism, communication, or a related field
  • Outstanding academic achievement as evidenced by documents from the university or other institution.
  • Outstanding written and spoken English abilities.
  • Outstanding editing and copywriting abilities.
  • Ability to write press releases, media messages, and other media goods.
  • Understanding of the South Asian media environment.
  • An advantage is shown experience working as a journalist through internships at media companies.
  • Expertise and originality in copywriting and content production
  • Working in an emergency and developing environment is advantageous.
  • It is also advantageous to have knowledge of public policy, international development, humanitarian issues, and children’s rights.
  • Knowledgeable about using social networking sites.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, particularly the capacity to condense long and frequently difficult information into succinct summaries.
  • Ability to be flexible in day-to-day job and adjust to changing situations.
  • The capacity to operate autonomously under pressure and in a variety of settings.
  • Familiarity with the common Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and sharing tools like SharePoint
  • There are no parents, siblings, brothers, or sisters who work for UNICEF directly, nor are there any other relatives in the chain of command that the intern will answer to.

Purpose

The purpose of this internship is to support UNICEF’s Regional Media Hub, located in New Delhi. The Media Hub is an integral part of the Communication and Advocacy section of the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia. This internship provides the selected candidate with exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and the opportunity to learn more about how UNICEF uses media in service of child rights. The UNICEF internship programme also provides students the opportunity to enhance their education experience and professional networking through practical work assignments. In turn, UNICEF benefits from qualified students or recent graduates specialized in the latest media practices.

Location

The internship is based in New Delhi (remote working possible)

Stipend

UNICEF provides a monthly stipend of USD 400 i.e. approximately Rs.33,400 / per month (five days a week; 9 am – 5.30 pm)

Duration

The UNICEF internship will be for a period of 2 months.
